Importance of Research and Evidence-Based Practice in Professional Nursing
EBP is crucial for providing patients with the best care possible in light of the most recent scientific discoveries. It has been demonstrated that using evidence-based practices leads to better outcomes for patients, providers, and institutions overall, including more dependable care and lower costs (“The role of,” 2020). Moreover, it allows for the prioritization of the needs of patients and optimizes the nurses’ workflow by improving their decision-making skills and confidence. Research and evidence-based practice are essential because they improve patient outcomes and healthcare organizations’ efficiency.
Impact of Research and Evidence-Based Practice on Quality and Safety in Healthcare Delivery
Furthermore, EDP allows for a more collaborative approach to healthcare, resulting in better patient quality and safety. Variation in care is greatly decreased when all physicians base their treatment decisions on the most recent research and methods (“The impact of,” 2022). This cooperative approach provides patients with safe and high-quality treatment in accordance with the most recent scientific advancements and tried-and-true procedures when used in conjunction with an adequate healthcare practitioner.
Example of Improved Health Outcomes through Research or Evidence-Based Practice
EDP has allowed for improvement in patient experiences while undergoing treatment. One of the brightest examples of this is the more extensive involvement of family members. As proven by the latest studies, family members may have a large impact on how a patient reports their symptoms to doctors (“The role of,” 2020). Therefore, this strategy allows medical professionals to learn more about the patient’s condition and give them the necessary care.
Addressing Practice-Related Issues through Evidence-Based Practice Initiatives
If I were to conduct an EDP initiative, I would focus on reducing patient stress. As stress is a large factor affecting patients’ treatment and recovery, I would add more proven practices that would help them relax. Thus, I would focus on additional psychological care in my evidence-based practice initiative.
Guiding Evidence-Based Practice Initiatives with Theoretical Frameworks or Nursing Theories
As stated above, my initiative would focus on psychological care; thus, a holistic approach to nursing will be needed. This approach will be helpful in a project aimed at stress reduction because holistic nursing emphasizes treating a patient as a whole, encompassing their body, mind, and spirit (“What is holistic,” 2022). Using research on holistic practices, such as breathwork and meditation, would likely allow for incorporating methods that were proven beneficial for patients. Thus, I would use holistic nursing theory for my EDP initiative.
