Introduction
Work values determine comfortable behavior and decisions taken by an employee related to work. According to the article “What are work values?” by Dr. Shonna Waters, published in 2021, work values are a person’s principles that apply to their work. Work values are crucial in a person’s career (Waters, 2021). They determine job satisfaction and, as a result, efficiency in it. People should consider the principles and rules that form their work values, which will help them succeed. In my opinion, work values are a must for finding the right job.
Opposite Representation
Work values cover many factors that influence a person’s decision-making. One can take the view that, in some cases, people are forced to ignore work values. Such reasons may be a guarantee of financial stability or other human values. In the case of providing an employee with a good salary, they will probably start working in a position that does not fully satisfy them. This means that some people may not pay attention to values but to needs. In such cases, people will not be able to achieve significant career advancement.
Ignoring Values Leads to Loss of Interest
Some of the work values that people have may be intrinsic values. These include creativity, a desire to improve the world, or helping those in need. In addition, there is an external value due to people’s desire to receive certain benefits from work (CTE4PWCS, 2020). The Career Values Assessment showed that my central work values are career achievement and work-life balance. Thus, considering these aspects, I will need to choose a place of work. In this case, I will be able to achieve the necessary goals. When someone knows his values and ignores them, they will not perceive their work as something they are interested in.
Contradictions in the System
Each person has different work values. This determines the labor market, where companies try to provide employees with the most favorable working conditions. If people stop focusing on their values when choosing the right job, this system will work inefficiently. Organizations cannot hire qualified employees, and people will no longer receive the bonuses they want. This creates the risk of upsetting the economic balance and many vacancies that no one wants to occupy. Some students, for example, may prefer jobs that can adapt to their class schedule for compromise.
Conclusion
To find a suitable job, people must consider their values. This is necessary because by being in a position that suits the employee in terms of parameters, they will be able to realize themselves as professionals. Each person has unique job needs that different companies can meet. Companies risk suffering significantly from low employment by ceasing to focus on work values. Thus, everyone needs to recognize and focus on personal values when looking for a job. Considering your beliefs and principles, you must select your potential job as accurately as possible.
