Introduction
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are complicated, and selecting appropriate software can be costly and time-consuming. The success of these systems significantly depends on the selected software. If a company chooses the right one, the ERP system will significantly improve decision-making and consumer satisfaction. Therefore, besides the warehouse manager, Smithford’s Pharmaceuticals should include members from every section of the ERP selection team.
Discussion
ERP systems aim to support and standardize business processes across organizational units. They should be able to unify, automate, and integrate an organization’s business processes (Haddara, 2018). At the same time, each unit has its own customized and standard processes. If some members are left out of the selection process, the ERP software will probably fail to meet their expectations.
In other words, including members from various sections of the ERP selection team is critical. First, they will make it to identify the processes and requirements that should be addressed through the ERP software (Barth & Koch, 2019). Their contributions will play a great role in customizing their needs and preventing costly, irretrievable errors. For instance, they will help reduce the possibility of choosing the wrong software that will affect the implementation phase or fail the project completely (Haddara, 2018). Moreover, these representatives will work as a team to improve organizational performance and ensure that they agree on appropriate ERP software.
When selecting an ERP team, including representatives from crucial units such as finance, warehouse, procurement, and human resources is critical. ERP systems are usually big projects because they affect fundamental areas such as sales, inventory, finance, and procurement (Barth & Koch, 2019). Therefore, Smithford’s Pharmaceuticals should note that ERP’s success will depend on the selected software, which the selection team members also influence. Their contributions will also improve efficiency in related processes such as budgeting and execution. Most importantly, the ERP system will affect the performance of all divisions across the company, and it should fit their needs. However, this success cannot be achieved if some leaders in some units were not included in the team responsible for selecting the ERP software.
Ideally, if all selection team members come together and agree on specific software, they will increase opportunities for adopting an effective ERP system. It will also be easier to test, train, and support users in using this system to improve their performance (Haddara, 2018). It will be a good undertaking that will make it possible to embrace a system that considers all aspects of work in all functional areas of the company. Therefore, Smithford’s Pharmaceuticals’ objective would be to ensure that every critical area is represented in the selection team. This way, this company will reduce the complications and the costs that can arise from failing to choose appropriate ERP software (Barth & Koch, 2019). They will avoid pitfalls that increase the complexity of ERP systems.
Conclusion
Conclusively, although ERP systems help standardize and improve efficiency in business processes, they are costly and complicated. Therefore, considering leaders from each department is crucial because they will help select ERP software customized to meet their needs. This is to say that Smithford’s Pharmaceuticals should consider a multi-departmental team to enhance its chances of selecting and implementing appropriate software. The failure to include representatives from core business areas can cause inefficiencies in ERP systems that will affect the company’s performance.
